THE TOP LINE OVERVIEW

Back in 2011, KUIU’s very first product was the ICON Pack System. It was the first truly modular hunting pack built around a carbon-fiber frame—an idea so original we patented it. That ICON Pack System would forever change ultralight backpack hunting.

When we launched the all-new ICON 6 program, we made a deliberate decision: evolution wasn’t enough. Drawing from everything we’d learned on the mountain and every piece of customer feedback, we set two clear top-line goals:

  1. Significantly improve heavy-weight carrying capacity and comfort.
  2. Simplify the overall design while dramatically improving performance.

The result is the most complete redesign in our history. We retained the modular DNA that made the original ICON and PRO packs iconic—the ability to swap bags while using the same frame and suspension—and redefined everything else. The ICON 6 shares zero key components and is not compatible with our previous pack systems.

The new, patent-pending frame was designed from a clean sheet using a variable-ply, dual-direction 3D corrugated carbon architecture paired with our Flex-Forward™ geometry. A traditional flat 0/90 carbon layup would need to be five times thicker and heavier to match this performance. This delivers the stability and load-carrying performance of an external frame pack while retaining the lightweight advantages and sleek profile of a carbon-frame system. The new design directly achieves the improved heavy-weight carrying capacity and comfort that drove this project.

The suspension is wider and taller without unnecessary bulk, and noticeably more comfortable under heavy loads, with superior load distribution across the hips, shoulders, and back. The bag options are cleaner and more intuitive, featuring strategic waterproof paneling that keeps gear drier than ever. The size range covers everything from a 3500-cubic-inch day pack to an 8200-cubic-inch pack built for multi-week, self-supported sheep hunts.

The design is so intuitive we almost didn’t need to write a manual. Load Sling Mode engages and disengages with just a few smooth motions—no more cursing at your pack under a headlamp while loading elk quarters in the dark.

This is our sixth-generation pack system, and it’s a whole new chapter for KUIU. We obsessed over every detail, testing and redesigning each component because “perfect parts make a perfect whole”. Whether you loved our previous packs or were looking for something completely different, we invite you to experience what the last five years of relentless testing and development have produced. Our 15 years of pack development are marked by continuous improvement—with the ICON 6 now sitting at the top.

We’ve done more than just put it through its paces. We’ve tested the ICON 6 on our toughest hunts and in every condition a hunter will face. This pack system was not built to match the competition. It was built to reset the standard.

Welcome to the all-new ICON 6.

ICON 6 PACK OPTIONS

ALL IN THE BAG

KEY BAG IMPROVEMENTS:

  • New bag shape moves weight higher on your back and closer to your body for better balance and comfort under heavy loads.
  • Extended horseshoe zipper path now routes toward the frame, allowing easy internal carry of a rifle, assembled optics, or a game quarter.
  • Internal meat carry sleeve (in larger bags) constrains the load next to frame and keeps it higher on the back.
  • Waterproof coated fabrics resist saturation and add durability.
  • Pockets remain accessible without undoing clips or removing your bow.
  • Optimized lid design with stowable/removable hardware so bags look clean when run lidless.

ICON 6 3D CARBON FRAME – THE WEIGHT-BEARING BACKBONE

The most significant upgrade is our patent-pending 3D corrugated architecture. By incorporating angled ridges, channels, and grooves, we created geometric strength that delivers dramatically better rigidity and durability. A traditional flat 0/90 carbon layup would need to be five times thicker and heavier to match this performance.

The frame also incorporates Flex-Forward™ Geometry — engineered with progressive stiffness that follows your spine’s natural movement while resisting rearward flex under load. Including maximum stiffness vertically for load support and controlled lateral flex for comfort without sway.

KEY FRAME IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Taller for better load lifter angle
  • Wider stance for improved stability
  • Dual bottom frame stays for improved weight distribution.
  • 3D Corrugation for superior strength-to-weight
  • Optimized progressive stiffness in all planes
  • More ergonomic shape and improved hip contact
  • Ability to carry meat or gear directly on the frame
  • Made in the USA - Oribi Composites Inc., Commerce City, CO.
  • Built from premium Toray® Carbon Fiber

THERMOPLASTIC CARBON FIBER: ENGINEERED FOR REAL-WORLD RESILIENCE

This shift directly addresses lessons from the mountain. Previous thermoset frames performed exceptionally well within design limits but could experience failure under abuse far beyond normal hunting loads. The new thermoplastic construction maintains the lightweight, high-stiffness performance hunters expect from KUIU while introducing non-catastrophic behavior at the outer limits of performance. You can push the frame hard with confidence — it yields rather than shatters, preserving load-carrying capability even in extreme scenarios.

Why This Matters for Hunters

The ICON 6 3D Frame’s patent-pending corrugated architecture already multiplies geometric strength far beyond a traditional flat layup. Combined with thermoplastic carbon fiber’s inherent toughness, progressive stiffness (via Flex-Forward™ Geometry), and the listed improvements — taller profile, wider stance, dual bottom stays, optimized ergonomics, and direct meat/gear carry capability — the result is a frame that feels planted and stable under heavy loads while remaining comfortable during long miles.

Built in the USA by Oribi Composites using premium Toray® carbon fiber, this isn’t just lighter or stiffer — it’s more capable and reassuring in the harshest conditions. Whether it’s packing out a hard-earned bull or a profession guide taking a hunter on a sheep hunt of a lifetime, the ICON 6 System’s frame is designed to stay with you, haul after heavy haul, season after season.

LOAD SLING MODE

How to Engage Load Sling Mode

  1. Detach and extend compression straps (2 top, 4 side).
  2. Peel back the lumbar pad.
  3. Detach bag attachment straps (2) from waist belt (under lumbar pad) and connect straps to the hook & loop patches on the bag.
  4. Remove upper frame stays and compression straps from frame-stay pockets.
  5. Lay the frame flat and place your load.
  6. Bypass the frame stay pockets and connect the top straps. Connect side compression straps. Cinch tight.

*Important Note: While in load sling mode, do not reroute the top compression straps through the upper on-bag Hypalon frame stay pockets. Bypass them and connect the top compression straps directly to the bag buckles.

PACK LOAD HAULER

How to Attach Pack Load Hauler

  1. Detach all compression straps (2 top, 4 side, 2 bottom).
  2. Peel back the lumbar pad.
  3. Detach bag attachment straps (2) from waist belt (under lumbar pad) and connect straps to the hook & loop patches on the bag.
  4. Remove upper frame stays and compression straps from frame-stay pockets.
  5. Detach lower compression straps.
  6. Route the bottom compression straps through the Pack Load Hauler.
  7. Connect top and bottom straps. Connect side straps.

Depending on the size and shape of your load, the Pack Load Hauler can be attached to the waist belt at the bottom or positioned higher up the compression straps.

BAG SWAP MODULARITY

A benefit of the ICON 6 modular system is owning one complete pack system, with the versatility of swapping on a different size bag for any hunt. So, if you’re primarily hunting sheep with an ICON 6 6000, but you need a day-sized pack for a vehicle-supported elk hunt, you can simply swap on an ICON 6 3500 bag — using the same frame and suspension.

HOW TO SWAP BAGS

*Same steps as Load Sling Mode plus removing the bottom straps.

Bag Removal

Bag Installation
  1. Route upper compression straps through frame stay pockets and connect buckles.
  2. Insert the upper frame stays into frame stay pockets.

SIZING

Suspension

*If you’re between sizes, size up.

Frame

*Recommendations are for average builds. If you’re between sizes: Longer torso, shorter legs = Tall frame. Longer legs, shorter torso = Regular frame. When in doubt, go taller.

HOW TO ADJUST YOUR PACK FIT

  1. Load the pack with 30–40 lbs of weight and tighten the compression straps to secure the load. Loosen the waist belt, shoulder straps, load lifters, and sternum strap.
  2. Position the center of the waist belt at the top of your hip bones and tighten it firmly. At this stage, 100% of the load should sit on your hips. For most users, the pack’s buckle will sit just above the button on your pants.
  3. With the load lifters loose, connect the sternum strap, then snug the shoulder straps to transfer roughly 35% of the load onto your shoulders.
  4. Engage the load lifters until you achieve consistent contact along the back of the shoulder straps and slight tension on the frame. Do not overtighten. When adjusted properly, you should feel pressure on your chest, not on top of your shoulders.
  5. As needed, adjust the shoulder strap height on the frame in ½-inch increments until the shoulder straps wrap comfortably over your shoulders with about a one-finger gap between the strap and the front of your shoulder. Loosen and readjust the load lifters after each adjustment.
To adjust the shoulder strap height: Start at the bottom and peel the strap back to disengage the hook-and-loop patches. Once released, the strap is held only by the T-lock connector. Slide the shoulder strap up or down the frame to the desired position and reattach the hook-and-loop. Repeat on the opposite side.
  6. Adjust the tri-glide on the shoulder strap, located at the bottom of the load lifter, upward until the load lifter sits at the desired angle. An angle of approximately 45 degrees or less is optimal.

Note: The pack ships at the factory-default shoulder strap height pictured below. On the Tall frame, this setting fits a regularly proportioned 6' user. The Regular frame is set to fit someone approximately 5'8" tall.

PRODUCT CARE

  1. Empty the pack and disconnect the bag, shoulder straps, and waist belt from the frame.
  2. Make sure all hook and loop strap keepers are connected or removed to prevent snagging on softer materials.
  3. Pre-rinse with a hose to remove blood, dirt, and debris. Hand wash in a basin with mild detergent (we recommend Granger’s Performance Wash) or machine wash on gentle/cold with zippers closed.
  4. Hang to dry.
  5. Treat with Granger’s Performance Repel Plus to maintain water resistance.
  6. Clean the carbon frame with mild soap and water.

WARRANTY

This pack is backed with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

Like boots, rifle barrels, and bowstrings, all packs eventually wear out. How long yours lasts depends on how hard and how often you use it. Normal wear from legitimate backcountry use is expected and is not covered. Damage from fire, vehicles, dogs, washing machines, runaway horses, accidents, abuse, or neglect is also not covered.

If it’s repairable, we’re happy to help even if it’s outside warranty. Damaged Item Repairs

FAQ

Q: Are older ICON or PRO packs compatible with new ICON 6 components?
A: No. The ICON 6 system is an all-new platform built from the ground up and does not share any common components with previous ICON or PRO packs.

Q: How do I set up the bottom bag connection straps for Tall versus Regular height frames?
A:

Q: In Load Sling Mode, should I keep the top compression straps routed through the upper frame stay pocket?
A: No. Bypass the frame stay pocket while in Load Sling Mode. The upper compression straps should only be routed through the pocket when the upper frame stays are inserted.

Q: Is the Load Hauler used while the pack is in Load Sling Mode?
A: No. The Load Hauler and Load Sling Mode are not used together. The Load Hauler provides similar load support to a pack bag in Load Sling Mode and effectively takes the place of the bag when it is not needed.

Q: In Load Sling Mode, what’s the best way to keep the load secure?
A: Load the pack while the frame is flat. To ensure the load stays secure between the bag and frame, first tighten the lower compression straps to create a V-shaped compression zone—tighter at the bottom with minimal gap and more open at the top. Load Sling Mode creates a full-frame compression sleeve that distributes weight evenly across the entire frame rather than point-loading it at the bottom.

Q: In Load Sling Mode, should I reconnect the two hook-and-loop webbing straps on the bottom of the bag to the waist belt?
A: No. Stow the bag’s suspension connector straps in the keeper loops or stowed position on the bag itself.

Q: Can I attach accessories to the hip belt?
A: Yes. In place of the removable side pouches, you can attach a wide range of accessories such as a sidearm holster, hydration holder, or bear spray holder.

Q: Are the hip belt pouches removable?
A: Yes. They can be removed for a more streamlined fit or to make room for other accessories.

Q: How do you use the TPU strap?
A: The TPU strap attaches to either the right or left side of the suspension. It can be used to secure a rifle stock, antlers, or other gear.

Q: How do I use the daisy-chain compression straps as additional side-compression straps?
A: Remove the daisy chain straps, reinstall them routed to the side of the pack and use the next-to-frame webbing loops.

Q: Are additional pack lids available for purchase?
A: No. Although the lids share common connection points and the ICON 6 3500 includes the necessary webbing attachment points, lids are not sold separately.

Q: Can I haul a rifle or bow without the Quick Draw or Bow Holder accessories?
A: Yes. You can use the daisy-chain adjustable straps with locking buckles on the outermost part of the pack to secure a rifle or bow.
Alternatively, a rifle may be stowed inside the pack next to the frame, in the Divide Pocket (4500 model), or the stuff-it side pockets through the pass-through side pockets (6000 and 8200 models). Use the side compression straps to cinch it securely against the pack.

Q: ICON 6 packs are constructed with waterproof fabrics. Do I still need a rain cover?
A: In heavy or prolonged rain, we recommend using a Pack Rain Cover. Although the packs use waterproof materials, they are not seam-taped and are not considered 100% waterproof. The waterproof fabrics help minimize water absorption inside the pack and also blood absorption into the suspension, while providing excellent durability.

Q: How often should a pack be cleaned?
A: Clean the pack whenever it becomes soiled with mud, dust, or blood—typically after every hard use. Regular cleaning keeps zippers, buckles, and straps functioning smoothly. Neglecting cleaning can lead to jammed zippers, binding compression straps, squeaks, and unwanted odors.

Q: Can any of these packs be used as carry-on bags on commercial flights?
A: No. Most major U.S. airlines limit carry-on bags to a maximum of 22 × 14 × 9 inches (including wheels and handles). The smallest ICON 6 frame measures 24.5 inches in length, placing all ICON 6 packs outside the allowable dimensions for carry-on luggage.
