By Dr. Preston Ward
Hunting season is here and with the bow hunts leading the way it means lots of time at the range or in your yard getting everything dialed. With a ramped-up practice schedule, long shooting sessions—including drawing back, letting down, shooting, and even pulling arrows from the target—shoulder pain and discomfort can put a damper on your training session. Not only does this physically cause you to miss training days mentally it can cause you to doubt your readiness to tag out on that target animal.
Shoulder pain is the leading cause of missed days afield with bowhunters and archers. Up to 60% of people will at some point complain of shoulder injury or pain while shooting archery, so it is critical to find the right exercises to keep your shoulders strong, mobile, and healthy for the moment of truth.
