Absolutely key piece for Archery Elk season

"I’m a fan of vests in general as a layering piece , but for September elk hunting I found it as a new essential piece . The peloton is a perfect blend of athletic fit and breath ability . I have the merino 200 weight which is great , but I found myself using the lightweight merino short sleeve and long sleeve all day long and the vest as the in between workhorse . High country CO elk hunting had temps in the 40’s early am , then highs in the 70’s, thrown in with thunderstorm showers and full blown hail days , followed by a cold snap. I don’t think my vest had a day off . It was durable , fairly rugged , warm , breathable , and comfortable . Everyone should probably have one in their arsenal"

How many inches of of orange is it for size L?

There isn't much of a description of the pockets for this vest. Does this vest have any interior pockets?
There are two zippered hand pockets, but no internal pockets
I don’t plan on wearing it over a heavy jacket. Most I’ll wear it over is a shirt and a sometimes light sweater. My chest is 40” I plan on getting a medium as I don’t want it bulky Would I be good with a medium? Is layering taken into account on the size guide?
