Not quiet but I love the fit

"I wouldn't bow hunt with it inside of 40yd but if you're 100yd+, the sound won't be an issue. I have bigger shoulders and there's plenty of room for layering. I could probably size down to a large if my shoulders and back were just a bit more narrow. The jacket has an athletic cut to it with sinches at the waist and two on the hood (nice touch on the hood). Will likely buy in more colors"

Great Jacket

"The jacket is comfortable and warm on the crisp early mornings and provides a perfect outer layer when glassing on cold days. Combined with Kuiu's layering system it is a great addition to my pack since it is packable and lightweight. Only drawback is tgat I am always a borderline size guy and it runs a touch long in the arms and its bulk for my size but I don't think a medium would've worked for me."

So good I got it twice

"It’s rare for me to find a piece of gear worth writing a review about, and it’s even rarer for me to replace a piece with the exact same one when the time comes. I originally got my first axis thermal hybrid as a gift from my wife for Christmas a few years ago. At that time, I was a hair “porkier” you could say. I’ve since lost some weight and have now slipped down into a large from an xl. All my other “too big” Kuiu gear has been swapped for other pieces from Kuiu, but none of them for the exact same piece. None of them, except the axis thermal hybrid. I’ve tried for YEARS to find a soft shell-esque jacket worth packing and using. This summer as I began inventorying things to replace, I realized that this was the ONLY piece that had been on every single hunting, scouting, and fishing trip in the last few years. That’s not to say my other gear doesn’t get used, but certain pieces get cycled in and out depending on conditions and time of year. But this one goes everywhere. It works as a standalone over just a base layer, or as the final piece stacked on top of others when it’s snowy and cold. It blocks the wind incredibly well, it’s durable, and it packs down well in my pack when I need it to. If a guy can only own one piece of gear from Kuiu, I’ll make it easy: make it the Axis Thermal Hybrid."

Q&A

How durable is this jacket? Will it stand up to oak brush in western states. Does it have similar durability to a softshell jacket?
Yes, the Axis Thermal Hybrid Hooded Jacket is a great piece for your needs and has a similar durability as our softshell jackets!
Describe the packability. Does this pack down into a small shape for stowage? Please give an approximate size (or photo) of the unit in it's most compact shape.
The Axis Thermal Hybrid Hooded Jacket will not stuff into its own pocket like our Super Down Jackets, but you could get it down to about 12"L x 8" Diameter with a Roll Top Dry Bag or compression sack
Is there insulation in the shoulders ? Or just shoffshell material ?
The insulation starts at the top of the sleeve where it meets up with the shoulder, but the shoulder does not have insulation.
Is the puffy material similar to the element jacket material?
Correct, The Axis Thermal insulated areas use the same insulation as the Elements Jacket.
Is it machine washable, or does it require dry cleaning?
It does not need to be dry cleaned. The Axis Thermal is washing machine applicable.
Description indicates waterproof paneling on hood, shoulders, forearms, etc. so is the entire jacket waterproof or just those areas noted in the description? I’m interested if entirely waterproof cause water resistant means you’re eventually going to be wet. Thanks and love your products BTW!!
Just the areas mentioned are waterproof. The rest of the jacket is water resistant.
