Reviews

Great jacket, slim fitting in the shoulders.

"I’m currently at elk camp in western Wyoming having just walked out in a good rain storm. This jacket kept me dry and warm. It’s fitted a little slim so definitely size up if your in between sizes and for layers. I’m 6’1 205 and got the xl. It’s great in the belly area but a little snug in the chest and shoulders."

Un box review not field tested yet

"The fit is great. I bought the strong fleece 230 hoody to wear underneath plus 200 Marino base layer and everything still fits great. I’m 5’7” 200lbs stocky build. Out of the box the quality seems to be great but have had a chance out in the field with it, but I’m sure it will will up to the reputation. I primarily bought this jacket and pants for Michigan late archery season, temps can dip, rain, snow or just really frigid windy days. I’m not a huge fan with wearing big bulky insulated jacket or pants during archery season because of the swings in the weather and I hate sweating in the stand. Water proof equals wind proof and that’s roughly 1/2 of these garments. Two birds one stone, the other half fairly good wind protection. The fleece lining is comfortable."

Pretty good jacket

"Overall, this jacket is pretty good. I wish it had more pockets though. I really liked the old Guide DCS jacket that is no longer made, and was hoping this would replace it. It could use another chest pocket on the other side and also at least once inside pocket. I also do not particularly like the way the hood attaches as part of the collar. I wish the hood was separate from the collar like the older Guide DCS style was. I knew before I bought it that it would probably run small like most Kuiu items I've purchased in the past, so I ordered up a size. I normally wear XL, but got XXL and am glad I did, as it fits well."

Axis hybrid

"The Axis hybrid is on of the most comfortable jackets I own. Fit is true to size, and material has just enough stretch to move well with your body and not be constrictive. Stops wind and light moisture like it’s supposed to."

Matthew F. (5/5)

Was recommended to size up

"Was recommended to size up cause kuiu usually runs small. This jacket fits more true to size. Definitely will have plenty of room for layers."

Michael W. (5/5)

Good jacket, watch the sizing.

"Love the feel of the jacket but it runs a little small. I would have sized up but it would be too big."

Cory M. (4/5)

Well Designed. Cold Weather Freedom of Movement

"I am in Florida, so all of my hunting gear is very lightweight. I was heading down to Argentina for a winter dove hunt with my son and realized we needed some colder weather gear. Bought this jacket as well as some of the other layers from Cou, which we already know and love. This jacket performed flawlessly. It kept us warm. But more importantly, we were able to shoot with three layers on completely unencumbered with tremendous freedom of motion. This is extremely well designed gear. I couldn’t recommend it enough."

Brian H. (5/5)

Looking forward to still hunting the Adirondacks this year!

"This is the final piece of my KUIU hunting clothing. This jacket will be great as my outer layer for long cold November through early December still hunting Whitetail Deer in the Adirondacks of New York State. The fit is great over my base and mid layers."

Timothy B. (5/5)

To much Kuiu LOL 😆

"Great product as is all my $7000.00 worth of Kuiu gear thanks Matt"

Matthew E. (5/5)

Love it

"Love this jacket! Just use this on a sheep hunt with my son in Alaska. This thing is freaking awesome."

Q&A

Is this jacket suitable for hunting mountain lion in Utah in February? ie - moisture wicking, durable in brush, good water resistance?
Yes, the Axis Hybrid Hooded Jacket would be a great choice for your needs!
is this jacket good for white tail hunts? Id like to use it for bow hunting a bit also how is it on noise?
The Axis is a great soft shell jacket that many customers enjoy on whitetail hunts. It is a quiet piece, but we do offer our Proximity and Encounter Jackets that would be quieter
Is the Axis Hybrid a true rain jacket? Says it is waterproof and the reviews are good. Does it hold up to a soaking rain?
It's a water resistant soft shell, but it is not a true waterproof hard shell. For soaking rains, you'll want to wear a waterproof hard shell, like the Yukon, over the top.
How loud is this jacket? Is it quiet enough to stalk mule deer in southern az?
It's as quiet as any other soft shell, but a quieter option would be the Kenai Jacket. Although insulated, it's active insulation which makes it incredibly breathable.
