QuixDown, which is made from Polish goose down and 3DeFX+ which is made from continuous synthetic fibers. Both insulation types have performance advantages that will keep you comfortable on the toughest hunts. When deciding what’s best for you, consider your level of activity and the weather conditions.
QuixDown locks in heat and is 100% windproof, making it ideal for the times you can’t move to keep warm. Think glassing, still hunting, or while in a blind or treestand. Since down doesn’t breathe well, high level activities like hiking can result in a buildup of sweat and overheating.
Down has the highest weight-to-warmth ratio of any insulation and is very packable. It’s so lightweight, you’ll never regret having it in your pack.
3DeFX+ is designed to breathe well, allowing body vapor and sweat to evaporate, making it a superb choice for active hunt situations. Since it breathes well, synthetic insulations are not as windproof, however, layering them under a soft shell or rain gear will block out wind and help retain heat.
Breathable fabrics are also ultra-quiet, so insulation styles using 3DeFX+ have become a favorite of archery hunters.
The weather and conditions are the deciding factor on where you decide to layer your insulation. If it’s cold, dry, and clear, it’s suitable to wear it on the outside. If it’s cold and wet, layer insulation under your rain gear.
We offer two styles of fit among our insulating layers. A mid-layer fit is sized to fit close to your body with minimal layers underneath. An outer-layer fit is sized to fit over base layers and mid layer insulation. For example, if you’re a size large, these combos would layer well together:
If you’re planning on wearing a garment sized with a mid-layer fit over multiple layers or you prefer a roomy fit, consider sizing up one size.
This series is geared towards those seeking ultralight packable insulation, ideally worn under rain gear or over base layers when brush-busting durability isn’t required. They’re so lightweight, you’ll think we shipped you an empty box, but they’re surprisingly warm for how light they are.
