Choosing the best day pack or backpack for hunting sheep, elk or deer is a daunting task, but KUIU has - your back. We’ll walk you through the process of selecting the right size of frame, the best fitting suspension and the size of bag that will haul everything you need and room to spare when you meet success. There are three key elements to consider when picking your best hunting backpack. Let’s break it down.
1 | FRAME
It’s the backbone of the system that connects the suspension to the bag. Without a lightweight sturdy frame, you’ll be limited to the amount of weight you may comfortably haul. One size does not fit all—everyone is built a little different—you need multiple sizes to choose from and have ample adjustability for a perfectly tuned fit.
2 | SUSPENSION
A well-built suspension system will adjust to your specific shape and comfortably distribute the load evenly throughout the hip belt and shoulder straps, allowing you to efficiently and comfortably harness the weight of your pack.
3 | BAG SIZE
The size of bag is determined by the amount of gear and food you’re hauling that supports you on the mountain as many days as planned. And when you tag out, consider the pack out for the added meat, head and cape.
KUIU's patented Carbon Fiber Frame is common to the PRO and ULTRA system, providing the weight-bearing backbone of our pack system. It features ultralight Spread Tow carbon fiber technology—built for vertical stiffness, horizontal flex and ultimate strength. The KUIU Carbon Fiber Pack Frame is available in three sizes and each frame has 4” of vertical shoulder height adjustability. Pick your size of frame and fine-tune the fit with the T-lock and hook and loop attachment system. Just like the boots on your feet, if your suspension doesn’t fit your body correctly, it may make or break your hunt. Each KUIU suspension series come in two waist sizes, ensuring an ergonomic fit. The completely redesigned PRO features a fully adjustable belt system—designed to adjust to your exact profile and waist size for ultimate comfort. PRO also features wider and broader stance shoulder straps that are positioned 2” wider across your back for added stability and comfort—the wider open stance across your back also promotes airflow and ventilation. If weight is your biggest concern, the ULTRA suspension provides a no-frills, ultralight suspension and hip belt. • PRO and ULTRA Suspensions are compatible with KUIU Carbon Fiber Frame • (S/M) less than 34” – (L/XL) 34” and over • PRO 27.6oz (S/M) – 28.7oz (L/XL) • ULTRA 24.9oz (S/M) – 26.7oz (L/XL)
Bag size depends on your type of hunt and how much gear you’re bringing. If you’re needing a smaller bag for quick trips after work and a larger bag for longer unsupported hunts, they easily swap out, utilizing the same suspension and frame. • 1850 The ideal hunting day pack or for quick trips when minimal gear is needed • 2200-2300 Versatile all-day hunting pack for extra clothes or optics • 3200-4000 1-to-3-day trips, hunting on horseback or gear intensive day hunts • 5500-6000 Geared towards unsupported 3-6-day trips • 7000-7800 The ultimate hunting pack for up to 14-day unsupported hunts PRO: Full-featured pocketing for unmatched organization.
