Feet are the most abused part of the body. We shove them into tight-fitting boots and slam them on the ground while getting from point A to point B. Some of this abuse can be minimized by finding the right boot, which can be difficult to find. Here are the five key factors when looking for a new set of boots.

5 KEY ELEMENTS

Weight:

The lighter the boot the less energy expended on every step of a long hunt.

Stiffness:

Stiffer boots will give you more control and support while climbing or side hilling which leads to less effort expended.

Waterproof:

A waterproof membrane protects your feet from not only from creek crossings, but wet grass, saturated ground, and precipitation.

Materials:

Full synthetic construction will absorb less moisture and dry quickly while remaining lighter weight and more breathable than traditional boot materials.

Fit:

The most important factor. There is no downside to doing your research and finding a boot that doesn’t cause blisters. SCARPA’s Sock Fit technology eliminates the bulk from a traditional tongue giving a consistent fit every time you lace up.

R-Evolution Trek GTX

Built for comfort in a wide range of terrains, this is the most versatile boot we have offered to date. With the understanding that not all hunters are looking for the stiffness and maximum support found in our other boot offerings, we worked with Scarpa to come up with an uninsulated hunting boot that provides the perfect balance between weight, flexibility, and ruggedness to tackle most lower-48 moderate to mountainous hunting terrains.

  1. Weight: 2 lb 15 oz (pair, US size 9)
  2. Flexible midsole = forgiving in varying terrains
  3. Abrasion-resistant full perimeter rubber rand
  4. Uninsulated with GTX waterproof liner
  5. Scarpa Sock-Fit Plus reduces tongue bulk and enhances fit

We designed this boot to land in the middle as a happy medium in-between the light and flexible and full-featured climber. You can expect just enough longitudinal stiffness for toe point climbing and crampon use in extreme conditions, while still appreciating some flex and rock while covering miles in more forgiving mountain terrain. This fully synthetic, waterproof, uninsulated hunting boot is ideal for people looking for extra stabilization in high alpine terrain.

  1. Weight: 3 lbs 2 oz (pair, US size 9)
  2. Longitudinal midsole stiffness promotes climbing power over the toe
  3. Uninsulated with GTX waterproof liner
  4. Abrasion-resistant full perimeter rubber rand

Finding the right boot is not easy, but if you put in the time and research it can change your motivation during a hunt. The boots that we offer will not work for everyone as SCARPA’s typically run narrow eliminating people with a wider foot, but the five key elements above still stay the same. Spend the time and try on as many boots as you can before pulling the trigger, you won’t regret it.
